Meals on Wheels originated in the U.K. during the Blitz of WWII, when many people lost their homes and ability to cook their own food.
The first Meals on Wheels in the U.S. began in Philadelphia, PA in 1954.
Many of the Meals on Wheels kitchens in our local area began in the early 1980’s.
71% of seniors needing Meals on Wheels report fair or poor health compared to 26% of average seniors.
79% of seniors needing Meals on Wheels indicate that fear of falling limits daily activities compared to 45% of average seniors.
87% of seniors needing Meals on Wheels are physically unable to shop for groceries.

The five kitchens serve approximately 6000 meals each month.
Close to 350 volunteers help to prepare and deliver nutritious hot meals and lunches.
Many recipients receive weekend meals in addition to Monday through Friday delivery.
Seniors temporarily recovering from illness or surgery can get meals to help during recovery.
We deliver from Lawrenceville through the North Side and North Hills, out to Sewickley, Coraopolis and Moon. We go north to Cranberry, Mars, Valencia, and east to Bakerstown and the Route 8 corridor.
We serve about 6000 meals each month, 72,000 meals each year.
We deliver 75 quarts of milk each day.
We use 1500+ trays each week.
300 lunch bags are used every day.
We send out about 6000 desserts each month.
We make around 1250 sandwiches each week.
At least 50 Volunteers assist in the kitchen and deliver meals each weekday.
