& Cranberry Cup

Generoasta is excited to partner with The Cranberry CUP, a local charitable organization with a long-standing history of community spirit and involvement. The Cranberry CUP was founded in 2000 by Cathy Cortazzo, a local resident who wanted to get other neighborhood Home Ownerʼs Associations involved in a friendly softball competition to raise money for a National Charity. Seven neighborhoods competed in the first Cranberry CUP Softball Tournament to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

14 CUPS later...over 35 neighborhood teams from Cranberry Township, along with 24 business teams compete in the now annual Softball and Golf Tournament. Since the first CUP, proceeds benefit local residents who are in need of financial help due to medical or other hardships through no fault of their own. We are truly inspired by Cathyʼs vision, along with the passion and commitment of those that participate in the The Cranberry CUP. If you are inspired please consider becoming a volunteer, sponsor or athlete! Dates for 2014: August 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. Materials and registration forms will be available at Generoasta. Visit the charity wall in Generoasta to learn more about this amazing example of community spirit and how you can become involved!

Since the year 2000, the CUP has raised more than ONE MILLION DOLLARS for local residents who have experienced severe financial stress due to medical or other hardships through no fault of their own. The Cranberry CUP has expanded its activities and its ability to raise funds since its inception. This success is due entirely to the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of individuals, neighborhoods, businesses and government agencies.

The CUP currently raises money through registration fees for the multiple events, raffle ticket sales, individual and business contributions, and corporate sponsorships. Many individuals and companies also donate essential products and services, or provide them at a reduced rate. What started as a softball
tournament is now a weekend event, with many opportunities to become involved: Kickoff Party, Opening Ceremonies, Golf Tournament, Softball Tournament, Homerun Derby, 5K race, and Neighborhood Fund Challenge.

The purpose of the Cranberry CUP is to conduct organized events whereas all facets of the community contribute to raising money for a worthy cause. The organization promotes volunteerism, community spirit, and goodwill toward a person or family in need.
